A community is in mourning after Watauga County Deputy William Mast was shot to death in the line of duty Thursday.

WATAUGA COUNTY, N.C. —

A fundraiser for a Watauga County deputy’s family brought in more than $5,000.

Fans at Saturday’s Appalachian State game donated money to William Mast’s family.

He was killed in the line of duty earlier this year.

His son was born three weeks later.

The money will go to the boy’s scholarship fund.

Appalachian State beat Montana 35-27 in the game.
