North Carolina's Attorney General, Roy Cooper, is vowing to fight Duke Energy's latest rate hike request.
Duke notified the utilities commission last week and it plans to ask for another increase to pay for maintenance and upgrades, though the company won't say how much it wants to raise rates until early next month.
Roy Cooper said any increase is too much. "We believe that the utilities commission should have to look at the effect of the profit margin on consumers, when considering that profit margin," said Cooper.
Cooper is still fighting last year's 7.2 percent rate hike in state supreme court.
A ruling is expected later this month.
