Bleacher bandits are on the rise

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. —

Investigators have said scrap metal thieves have stooped to a new low after several baseball field bleachers disappeared this month.

Rowan County deputies were contacted Tuesday after several rows of aluminum bleacher seats disappeared from Morgan Elementary School on Liberty Road.

Officers valued the bleachers at about $200. They are believed to have disappeared sometime after Feb. 1.

A Methodist church across the street reported stolen bleachers from their baseball field on Feb. 1 and Feb. 3.

In all three incidents, only the top sections of the bleachers were taken.

Deputies are investigating the thefts and ask that anyone with information contact the Sheriff's Office at 704-216-8700.
