Community coming together to help clean-up tornado debris
CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. —
Landfill fees and the county building permit fee are being waived for tornado victims near Harrisburg in Cabarrus County.
The Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners is waiving all landfill fees to the county's construction and demolition waste landfill on Irish Potato Road for a 90-day period for those affected by the tornado.
Commissioners are also waiving the county building permit fee for tornado-damaged homes for a 90-day period. Homeowners who use contractors for repair work should ensure those contractors pass on the savings, the county said.
Debris removal assistance also is being provided to the neighborhoods hit by the tornado. The N.C. Department of Transportation will collect storm debris from all state-maintained roads on Tuesday and later in the month.
The town of Harrisburg is extending its debris removal services to the affected unincorporated area. Its trucks will be in the affected neighborhoods on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, as well as on March 15 and 16, March 23 and March 30.
