CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
The Charlotte Department of Transportation will make changes to a busy uptown Charlotte intersection where two Wells Fargo employees were struck by vehicles in as many days.
Both victims were crossing the intersection of East Stonewall and South College Streets when they were hit.
The first victim, Brett Morgan, was killed. The second victim, David Smuda, is still recovering from his injuries weeks after the accident.
“I still have a few side effects with the concussion,” Smuda said. “I still have a few headaches.”
Within the next week, CDOT will install signs at every approach to the intersection warning drivers, especially those turning, to yield to any pedestrians.
Smuda is happy to hear there are changes being made, but wonders if it will be enough.
“Anything helps, but unless the drivers really start paying attention to what they’re doing it really doesn’t matter what safety precautions the city puts,” he said.
CDOT is also considering making structural changes to the intersection that would force vehicles to reduce their speed through the intersection.
