CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
A Charlotte company expects to hire 100 workers by next summer.
Odyssey Logistics opened its Charlotte office with just 13 employees nine years ago.
President Bob Shellman said the global company wasn’t sure Charlotte would pan out.
“The question was, would we find the right skill set and personnel here?” he said.
“Did you find that?” Eyewitness News asked.
“Yes, and now we are expanding,” he said.
Now, it has 170 employees. On Tuesday, Shellman announced plans to hire 100 more, making Charlotte by far its biggest operation in the country.
The company arranges transportation for companies to move their products -- by plane, train or on the road.
It could have expanded into cities like Atlanta or Chicago but found a winner in Charlotte, said Chamber CEO Bob Morgan.
“Charlotte not only has the airport, but we have people moving here from around the country,” he said. “In the last decade, we were the fastest growing metro area in the U.S.”
And at a time when the major employers like banks are cutting back, Mayor Pro-Tem Pat Cannon welcomes the growth in other areas.
“It’s so good we are able to diversify in other areas, like logistic technology,” he said.
Odyssey is looking to start hiring right away. It wants to have those 100 people hired in the next six to 12 months. For more information, click here.
