NORTH CAROLINA —

North Carolina’s cost of living and quality of live actually caused the state to go down in a yearly ranking.

CNBC’s study ranks North Carolina fourth in the nation. Last year it was third.

The Tar Heel state ranked high in workforce, business friendliness, technology and infrastructure, but the cost of doing business and overall state of the economy caused the drop.

Texas, Utah, and Virginia took the top three spots. South Carolina ranked 32 and Rhode Island was last on the list.
