"It's not going to cause me to get stuck in life. This is a new life path that I've been given," she said.
It's a path that started with a trip to Boston that was initially meant for her family to support her mother running in the marathon now a time to cherish each other.
"This is the first Mother's Day that we've shared together in I don't know how long, so that is pretty special to celebrate this Mother's Day together, especially after everything that's happened," she said.
Nicole also said this tragedy has brought her family even closer together. While she says she's eager to get home to Charlotte, she also isn't afraid to return to Boston.
