Charlotte’s bike share system opened to users on Wednesday.

The system consists of 20 stations and 200 bicycles and is named Charlotte B-cycle. The stations are located throughout uptown and at key points outside the Interstate 277 loop. 

Bike share memberships are available to anyone over the age of 18 with a valid credit card or debit card. Memberships can be purchased on an annual basis for $65, and a 24-hour pass can be purchased for $8. 

Members incur no fees for the first 30 minutes of each ride after removing a bike from a station. If a user keeps a bike for more than 30 minutes before checking it back in to one of the 20 stations, they will accrue an additional $4 charge. 

The pricing structure is designed to encourage turnover and keep the bikes in the system as much as possible, officials said.
