The annual Charlotte Thanksgiving parade started around 10 a.m. at Tryon Street.
The new Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools superintendent, Heath Morrison, served as the grand marshal for this year's parade.
Talking about unique things -- the Charlotte Fire Department is celebrating 125 years of service Thursday.
The department is using all of its antique fire trucks from 1866 through 1971 in the event.
Another special guest is Olympic swimmer Rickey Berens, who graduated from South Mecklenburg High School.
Above all, though, thousands are out here to enjoy the holiday spirit and spend time with family.
This parade is also known for its scholarships. At 5 p.m., Eyewitness News reporter Sarah Rosario will explain why the parade could be different and the scholarships could be in jeopardy for next year.
