CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officers will be walking around uptown Charlotte for the new few days.
The district is using 15 of its officers and detectives to talk directly with families living in uptown.
CMS said it wants to have the most up-to-date contact information in case of security concerns during the Democratic National Convention.
"There's a lot of unanswered questions right now," Officer George Powell said, "and we'll do our best to answer those questions for the parents."
If parents aren't home, officers are leaving their cards and a letter from the district.
CMS said it's setting up shuttle buses for students who live in uptown but go to schools outside center city.
Students living west of Tryon Street will need to walk to Irwin Academic Center for their shuttles.
Students living east of Tryon Street will walk to First Ward Elementary.
Parents said they appreciated the police effort.
