RALEIGH, N.C. —
A committee in Raleigh is set to vote on Wednesday on a bill to lift a moratorium on fracking. The bill before the state Senate Finance Committee would signal to the oil and gas industry that North Carolina is eager to host natural gas exploration in its shale reserves. It is an effort to draw energy business to North Carolina, but environmentalists said the process could cause toxic chemicals to leak into groundwater.
