WASHINGTON, D.C. —
With camera shutters firing away, Mayor Anthony Foxx walked in, all smiles and with his wife by his side. Foxx told the Senate's Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee about strides he's made with Charlotte's airport and light rail and promised to build trust as secretary of transportation. Foxx was nominated by President Barack Obama for U.S. Secretary of Transportation. "My goal (is) to be open and as transparent as possible," Foxx said. Both North Carolina senators came to support him. "I'm just excited that we've got a North Carolinan being considered," said Sen. Richard Burr, R-NC. "I really think it really does show the importance of North Carolina and the leaders in our state," said Sen. Kay Hagan, D-NC. Hagan said Foxx met with each of the senators on the committee before the hearing, maybe one reason it stayed somewhat relaxed and friendly.
