CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

The Charlotte City Council made plans on Monday night to host a convention for the National League of Cities in 2017.

The event would cost at least $1 million, but city leaders said private groups would probably foot part of the bill.

Estimates predict the event would bring about eight times that amount to the area in economic development.

Charlotte hosted the event in December 2005.
