CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
A man is dead after his girlfriend stabbed him Saturday morning at an apartment complex in south Charlotte, police said.
Police are investigating the incident that happened at Andover Creek Drive just after 10 a.m.
Police said a woman called 911 to report she had stabbed her boyfriend.
Officials believe the stabbing happened after a heated argument between the couple at the Andover Woods Apartments.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw the man suffering from a stab wound. Officers said Lonnie Denar McConico was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors are shocked by the incident.
"It was like unreal. It was really sad, because it was someone that I did know," said Shannon Williams.
Williams told Eyewitness News she lives in the apartment complex where it all happened.
Williams said the victim was a family friend that she had known for years. She said he had just moved into the apartment complex about three months ago with his girlfriend. She had no idea what led to the stabbing.
Several people who live there said they were students at the Art Institute of Charlotte.
"This is my first time moving out on my own," said Joshua Woods.
They watched as the police presence grew all day and said they were stunned.
"It was like eight police cars and I was watching everything and then an investigation truck pulled up and a police van."
The suspect was taken to CMPD headquarters for questioning.
