GASTON COUNTY, N.C. —

Hundreds of bogus 911 calls from one person is one reason why Gaston County's 911 director supports a new proposal to stop phony calls.

Investigators arrested a person they said made 360 calls since January. They said she'd call then immediately hang up.

Director Lloyd Moskowitz said each time, dispatchers have to make follow-up calls and emergency crews are often forced to visit the home.

"A lot of times people will make these calls to just harass their neighbors," Moskowitz said.

The House bill introduced Wednesday would increase the maximum penalty for misuse of the 911 system from 20 days in jail to four months.
