BURKE COUNTY, N.C. —
Sheriff's deputies were on the scene of a double shooting west of Morganton in Burke County where a father and son are hospitalized on Sunday.Deputies told Channel 9 there are signs of forced entry into the home where the shooting occurred. There was crime scene tape across the driveway; the home sits at the top of the hill. The wife and mother of the men who were shot was there when she said someone kicked in the door."I just want everyone to pray for my son and my husband," Presnell. She fought back tears as she described the early morning break-in and the gunfire inside the home.At the time, she said she was asleep and had no idea what was happening until she heard the voice of her son warning her about an intruder."I saw somebody going out the front door but all I saw was an arm. And I was going to the door and I heard my son say, 'Momma don't go to the door, me and Daddy has just been shot," said Presnell. She said someone shot her son, 35-year-old Jonathan Presnell, twice in the stomach and the arm.Deputies said her husband, 70-year-old Johnnie Leroy Presnell, is suffering from life-threatening injures.Presnell said before help arrived Leroy tried to tell her who was responsible."My husband knows who it is but I just couldn't understand. He was trying to tell me because he was bleeding from the mouth," she said. The sheriff said he has sent investigators to the hospital in hopes of learning more about what happened.Other detectives along, with the SBI are collecting evidence at the scene.
