YORK COUNTY, S.C. —

A convicted felon was allowed to take custody of an 8-year-old boy just a few months after being arrested for abusing him.

The Herald in Rock Hill reported York County DSS officials did not do a thorough records check on the man, who is the boy’s uncle.

The man was convicted in 1995 of assault and battery with intent to kill.

The name of the man was not released to protect the identity of the boy.
