Family and friends gathered Friday night to remember a loved one gone before he really had the chance to live.
William Perry, 1, was killed last Saturday in a hit-and-run crash at Sharon Amity and Albemarle roads.
Family and friends shed tears and held tight to one another hoping that coming together could bring some comfort.
Unable to attend the ceremony was little William's mother. Brittany Massey is still in the hospital recovering from her injuries.
Like William, family friend Tony Gabriel died at the accident scene.
Police have charged Oscar Francisco Garcia-Fuentes with striking their vehicle, then abandoning his Mustang and running away.
"Regardless of if he's in the country illegally, or just not doing the right thing, that hurt more than anything. That hurt more than anything, to leave them there to die, but I'll leave that to God," said grandfather Freddie Williams.
Those who turned out tried to move past the tragedy and instead focus on the baby boy they say was a light in their lives.
"It's going to be hard. We'll try to hold together and take it one day at a time, but we're never going to get over this," Williams said.
William's funeral will be held Saturday. Family members said doctors will allow Massey to attend the funeral before returning to the hospital to continue her recovery.
