Firefighters are investigating what caused a fire at a group home in east Charlotte.
They were able to get everyone out of the building and no one was hurt.
Firefighters were called to the home near North Sharon Amity and Robinson Church roads around 4:30 a.m. Monday. A neighbor who had gone outside to smoke saw the home on fire and called 911.
Fire officials said at least four people were inside, and they were unaware that the home was ablaze until firefighters banged on the door.
Firefighters said they worried about more than just putting the fire out.
“What are most people doing (at that time)? They're sleeping. So one of our primary concerns aside from putting the fire out is finding out where the people are and getting them to safety,” said Battalion Chief Phil Boschel.
Fire investigators said the blaze appears to be accidental, but nothing has been ruled out.
