Firefighters treated after Avery Co. house blaze

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. —

Several firefighters in Avery County were treated for heat exhaustion after a large house fire near the Elk Park community.

Five different volunteer fire departments responded to that fire on Bear Claw Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

The fire marshal said flames had already burned through the roof of the home when crews arrived.

The owner was home at the time, but was doing yard work when the fire started.
