"We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Danielle Watson. We have met with Danielle's parents and intend to do all that we can to help them through this very difficult time," officials said.
Watson's accused killer, Mark Cox, appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday.
A judge read a list of charges including two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and murder. Cox showed no emotion during the appearance and said little.
No family members were present in the courtroom.
Cox, Watson's co-worker, is accused of killing her Friday night during a robbery and dumping her body behind a nearby restaurant.
He remains in the Mecklenburg County Jail with no bond.
Watson was two months pregnant at the time of her death and engaged to fiancé, Keith Smith. Smith did not attend Wednesday's court appearance because he could not stand to face the man he believes stole the life of his future wife and unborn child, he said.
