GASTONIA, N.C. —

Firefighters responded to an overnight fire at Gastonia’s Freightliner plant.

The fire department told Channel 9 smoke was thick when crews first arrived.

The plant lost about $1 million in production time when it had to evacuate employees around midnight.

A vent system about the size of a fire engine went up in flames.

Damage to the equipment will cost between $75,000 and $100,000 to fix, officials said.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire and allow workers back inside by 2 a.m.

Nobody was hurt, and the building was not damaged.

Employees are to report to work as they normally would.
