Fundraiser held for boy attacked by pit bull

ROCK HILL, S.C. —

There was no shortage of hope, prayer and fun at a fundraiser Saturday to support a boy who was mauled by a pit bull.

Complete strangers turned out to support Kenny Allen, 11, and his family.

Allen was walking over to a friend’s house on Ridgecrest Road Wednesday when a pit bull attacked him. He has injuries to his hand, arm and scalp, and is still recovering in the hospital.

The pastor of the Faith Family Christian Center in Rock Hill organized the large fundraiser in just a few days.

"They are part of our family and we just feel we need to reach out and love on them,” said William Ray.

Allen’s parents are close friends with the dog’s owners and said they are not angry at them.

But without insurance, the family has enormous medical bills piling up and they are grateful for the donations.

Paul Ladd, the Minister of Music at Faith Family Christian Center, was amazed by the support from other churches.

"They came up, dropped handfuls of money and said we took up an offering tonight,” Ladd said.

Allen could get out of the hospital in about a week. He will then have years of reconstructive surgery and skin grafts.

The owners surrendered the dog to animal control and it was put down on Thursday.  They were also cited for violating public nuisance laws.
