Gov. McCrory declares state of emergency after mountain landslide

GRAHAM COUNTY, N.C. —

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory is declaring a state of emergency for mountain counties affected by a landslide.

McCrory signed an executive order Wednesday for an emergency declaration covering Graham, Jackson and Swain counties.

The Jan. 15 landslide demolished a 200-foot section of Highway 441, which goes through the Great Smokey Mountains National Park.

The highway is the primary road link between Cherokee and Gatlinburg.
