Homes still being rebuilt nearly 1 year after NC tornado

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. —

Homes are still being rebuilt in one community in Burk County after an EF-2 tornado destroyed homes almost one year ago.

Volunteers are helping to give Christina Talent a new home after the twister’s 100 mile per hour winds destroyed her old home.

The North Carolina Baptist Men, along with other groups, have repaired 31 homes in the area.

“It is hard to put into words what the Baptist Men have done for us. Without them we wouldn’t have a house right now,” said Talent.

Talent hopes her family can move in next week on the anniversary of the tornado.
