NORTH CAROLINA —

A request to increase homeowners insurance by an average of 17 percent will not happen until at least next summer.

The insurance companies asked for the rate increase to take effect June 1, but Tuesday the insurance commissioner scheduled a public hearing for it two days after that on June 3.

There is no way of knowing when the new rates could go into effect if they are approved.
