A Kannapolis man is facing charges because police said he refused to listen to investigators when they ordered him to stay away from a 15-year-old girl.
Eric Thomas was arrested and charged with second-degree kidnapping last week because police said he met up with the teen he was having an inappropriate relationship with after he was released from jail.
He was arrested Sept. 12 on charges of taking indecent liberties with a child when police were first notified of the relationship.
Thomas' mother, Barbara King, told Channel 9 she knew about the relationship and that it had gone on for a while.
"We moved here to get further away from the situation so he couldn't walk there. She couldn't walk to our house," King said.
King said the girl kept trying to reach her son after his arrest. She said she told him to stay away from her, but he didn't listen to her.
Thomas is in the Cabarrus County Jail. His bond has been set at $150,000.
