A young girl who police said survived severe abuse by her stepfather underwent another surgery Monday. Channel 9 has been following Kilah Davenport’s story for more than a year. Her family said she had surgery to have a shunt placed in her head. If the surgery was successful it will relieve some of the pressure.A bill is moving through the North Carolina general assembly in her name, designed to increase penalties for those convicted of child abuse. The bill’s sponsor told Channel 9 it will be heard in the Senate judiciary committee Tuesday and could be voted on by the Senate this week. The House already passed it.
