MINT HILL, N.C. —
A Union Co. 3-year-old girl will go home from the hospital once again after having more surgery this week.Police said Kilah Davenport was physically abused by her stepfather. Mint Hill Town Council unanimously passed a resolution in support of Kilah’s Law. The new law in her name would create longer sentences for serious child abusers. Advocates of the law said if it is passed it won’t help Kilah’s case, but they hope it will help someone else.“Maybe it will deter someone from doing this to another child, so they don’t have to live the nightmare we have to live,” said Kilah’s grandmother Leslie Davenport.Mint Hill is the seventh town to support Kilah’s Law. Harrisburg voted to do so Monday. The bill should be introduced in North Carolina’s legislature in January.
