The Charlotte Knights will play their first home game in the minor league team's new Uptown ballpark next April.
The Class AAA baseball team announced Wednesday at the site of its future home that professional baseball will officially return to Charlotte on April 11, 2014. The inaugural game at BB&T Ballpark will be against the Norfolk Tides.
The last professional baseball game in the city was in August 1988. The team has played at Knights Stadium in Fort Mill, S.C., just south of the state border.
Knights executive vice president Dan Rajkowski announced that club seats for BB&T Ballpark are sold out. Anyone can now purchase 2014 season tickets that start at $756 per seat for 70 home games. Sales had been limited to current season ticket holders and sponsors.
