CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

The Charlotte Knights are now officially asking for city tax dollars to help build their ballpark uptown.

They still want to build it in Third Ward.  They place the cost at $54 million and say they need $11 million city tax dollars to close the gap, that they've "exhausted" all of their options and that it's "do or die time."

Some city leaders seem nervous about justifying that to the public.

"I don't want this to be the straw that breaks the public's back,” Claire Fallon said.

Center City Partners and other executives tried to assure them the ballpark would spur as much as $400 million in development around the stadium and that developers and a hotel are already in talks with them.
