CHARLOTTE N.C. —
A large group of people gathered outside of Southpark Mall Friday morning waiting to get new Nike shoes.
Police were called to the mall and told the crowd to leave and come back once the mall opens.
The Nike Foamposite Galaxy shoes are being released Friday, and will not be sold online. The shoe will debut during the NBA All-Star weekend starting Friday night.
The $220 shoe is described to have a glow-in-the-dark sole, dark purple graphics and is made of a high tech ultra-durable foamposite material.
People waiting at Southpark have told Channel 9 the Foot Locker House of Hoops only has 10 pairs available.
The same shoes caused such a problem outside an Orlando mall that police had to use riot gear.
Hundreds of people were there Thursday night, but the store decided not to open at midnight as scheduled, which angered the crowd.
The frenzy for the shoe did not stop at the malls. A man in New York City posted a Craigslist ad offering his car for a pair of the new Nike shoes.
“Looking to trade my car, 96 Chevy Cavalier for a pair for Galaxy Foamposite size 10.5. Yes, car for sneakers. Car will come with a full tank of gas also. Nothing fake about this deal. You give me your pair of galaxy foamposite size 10.5 and i give you my car, keys, clean signed tittle and ill even the bill of sale filled out already. And ill even drive to you," his post read.
There are already several listings for the shoes popping up on eBay with bids ranging from $1,500 all the way up to $70,100. Check out that listing, right here.
This isn't the first time Nike has created a buzz around a shoe release.
In December, shoppers told Channel 9 they were trampled while trying to get into Southpark for Nike's Air Jordan Eleven Retro Concords.
Huge crowds also gathered at Carolina Place and Northlake malls for those shoes.
