LONG VIEW, N.C. —
William Lail walked into the courtroom Monday in handcuffs, just three days after police say he killed his girlfriend’s 20-month-old son, Jaydon.
"You are charged with the offense of murder," said Honorable Gregory Hayes.
Lail is charged with one count of murder and two counts of child abuse. He was visibly upset as the charges were read.
"Intentional infliction of child abuse, inflicting serious injury upon a child," read the judge.
According to arrest warrants obtained by Eyewitness News, Jaydon and his 3-year-old sister were in the care of Lail Friday. The warrants say the children had scalding burns.
There was family in the courtroom for Lail Friday. When Eyewitness News asked if they had anything to say, they told us no.
Lail is due back in court May 17.
Eyewitness News reached out to Jaydon's grandmother, but has not heard back.
