MARION, N.C. —
Sheriff's deputies in McDowell County have identified a body found in a burning camper in Marion.
An autopsy showed that 30-year-old Ronnie Joe Speagle of Marion died from smoke inhalation and injuries in the fire.
Sheriff's deputies and fire departments were called to Speagle's home around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and found his body inside the burning camper.
Sheriff's Capt. Shannon Smith says investigators have not ruled out foul play.
Smith says deputies had been called to Speagle's home earlier Tuesday morning by a neighbor who reported a prowler. Smith said deputies found no evidence of a prowler.
