CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Detectives are still piecing together evidence to figure out how a man was killed outside a southwest Charlotte restaurant.Witnesses heard gunshots and then found a body inside a car Wednesday night.Police identify the victim as William Lee Tunson, 21.Police are not saying what may have led up to Tunson's death.Someone passing by saw his body in a car in the Applebee's parking lot near South Tryon and Whitehall Park Drive.People who were at the scene said they saw Tunson shot and bleeding in a silver Honda. Dozens of people watched as police sectioned off the area with crime tape.Officers used K-9s to search the surrounding areas. This caused such a disturbance that people working out at a local gym came outside to see what was going on.“All I seen is police and fireman, and when you see yellow tape that means something tragic, something very serious happened,” said Ressie Caldwell.Crime statistics for the area show only two violent crimes within a quarter-mile of the area in the past year. Channel 9 looked up Tunson's record and it shows he has been arrested eight times since June of 2010.Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
