MINT HILL, N.C. —
Mint Hill police are searching for a 16-year-old girl who disappeared Sunday afternoon. For hours on Monday, police and firefighters scoured the woods and a pond in a rural area of a subdivision near Pumpkin Way in Mint Hill. Police said Kayla Campbell's cellphone last sent a signal near the area. They said they did find some of Campbell's belongings there but would not be specific. A man who identified himself as Campbell's grandfather and was seen speaking privately with police said officers told him they found her cellphone, bicycle and helmet near the pond. Police said her father reported her missing around 6 p.m. on Sunday. He said she left the house on her bike around 2:30 p.m. and was expected to return just after 5 p.m. Mint Hill police said they are interviewing family members in hopes of piecing together where she might have gone. They are asking for the public's help. "We don't know where she is," Lt. John Rowell said. "So if anyone knows where she is or has heard from her, knows anything about this, please give the Mint Hill Police Department a call."Stay with wsoctv.com for updates on this developing story.
