Charlotte sees snow, threat of ice possible

By Tina Terry

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Rain and snow flurries Saturday night created a real threat for black ice.

Eyewitness News cameras started capturing the rain and snow mix falling all over the viewing area Saturday morning.

Heavy snow fell in West Charlotte and Lake Norman. Viewers in South Charlotte even sent pictures of snow accumulating in their back yards.

"I was actually very shocked" said Fritz Belinga.

However, early Saturday evening, officials with North Carolina's Department of Transportation and Charlotte's Department of Transportation said they were still monitoring the situation and waiting to decide whether it would be necessary to salt roads.

Eyewitness News also checked with South Carolina Transportation officials early Saturday evening and they had no plans to salt roadways at that time.
