CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
A contract dispute involving Monroe’s airport is putting upgrades to the runway on hold.
Officials were working to have a recently finished runway extension strengthened with some overlay work.
A company that lost the contract bid sued the city, claiming it did not accept the lowest bid. The suit led to the city council opting to withdraw the winning contract.
The city extended the runway to bring in more Fortune 500 executives with bigger private jets.
The airport and city officials are also working on projects that will have the airport ready for the Democratic National Convention in September.
