CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
The sun might be out, but state road crews are already getting ready for ice and snow.
This year, the department will use a new, liquid brine-calcium blend that works better than regular salt.
The mixture costs less because less is needed.
“It will be a key opportunity for us to take care of times where you have light snows or freezing rains or frost. You will have a better coverage and it will melt even quicker,” said Mike Campbell, NCDOT interstate project manager.
The NCDOT typically budgets $30 million for snow and ice removal.
