New rule could mean more Internet access on planes

NORTH CAROLINA —

New rules by federal officials could mean more Internet on more flights.

The Federal Communications Commission approved a new application process for airlines to tap into satellite airwaves mid-flight.

The Federal Aviation Administration also has to approve inflight safety.

Experts said the hurdles over regulation have slowed Internet implementation on some airlines.
