North Korea has vowed a preemptive nuclear strike against the United States.

The announcement came ahead of Thursday’s U.N. Security Council vote on the strongest sanctions ever ordered against the country.

It is in response to North Korea’s latest nuclear test.

Earlier this week, North Korea threatened to cancel the 1953 cease fire that ended the Korean War if the sanctions pass.

President Barack Obama has not commented on the threat.
