CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Police said one person was killed in an accident in south Charlotte. Tyvola Road at Old Pineville Road was shut down for about two hours. Officers at the scene said a driver of a Nissan pickup truck lost control and struck a tree in the median.
Tatiana Rivera, 20, was killed in the crash. Two passengers were injured in the crash.
Hilda Jijon and Isais Lucero, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver, 23-year-old Bairon Sandoval, sustained a minor injury and was discharged from the hospital. According to officers, Sandoval was arrested for driving while intoxicated, felony death by vehicle, felony serious injury by vehicle and no operators license. Salt trucks had to make the road passable for a tow truck. The truck could not make it to the scene of the wreck because of icy patches.
