Officials say Perdue’s decision won’t impact DNC planning

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Eyewitness News wanted to know how the shake-up involving Gov. Bev Perdue’s decision not to seek re-election could affect the Democratic National Convention.

Convention officials said, "This won't impact convention planning."

The host committee, which is different and which Perdue co-chairs, refuses to comment at all.

Experts think there will be little impact on the DNC.  They say the DNC is all about the presidential race, Gov. Perdue will still be in office, and that the convention could be even more energetic with a gubernatorial candidate hoping to cash in on that extra exposure.

“The Democratic Party has a deep bench and I think that there will be energy and enthusiasm around more campaigns,” Democratic Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jennifer Roberts said.
