CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Commuters who travel one stretch of roadway in north Charlotte can expect traffic delays into the weekend. Department of Transportation officials shut down a section of Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in both directions Wednesday afternoon between Harris Boulevard and Northlake Center Parkway. Crews spent several hours working to repair a pipe that burst underneath the pavement. DOT officials believe all the recent rain is to blame. Eyewitness News found many frustrated drivers turning around looking for an alternate route. "You got the road blocked. You got to give the people some kind of direction of how to get around," said resident Jacob Atkinson. "My boyfriend actually parked his car here after work and walked to the apartment because of the mess that this was," Ashton York said. Officials will return at 7 a.m. in hopes of finishing the repairs. They urge drivers to follow the detour signs and be patient.
