CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
The Carolina Panthers are firing back at a national sports article that suggested the team had the money to finance its own stadium upgrades.
Eyewitness News shared parts of the Deadspin article which shared the team's profit from the last two fiscal years ending in March.
The article stated the team made more than $112 million in those two years.
The Panthers say the figures offer an isolated snapshot of the team's financial situation.
The team released a statement that said the more realistic figure to look at is cash flow for the years the article mentions.
It would be $26 and $39 million a year -- significantly less than Deadspin calculated.
