Perdue’s new budget offers raises for teachers

RALEIGH, N.C. —

North Carolina public school teachers could get their first pay increase in nearly four years.

Gov. Bev Perdue said her budget proposal next year will include an experience-based pay increase for teachers.

The increase would cost tens of millions of dollars and would equal a nearly 1.8 percent average raise.

Perdue will release her budget next week.
