UNION COUNTY, N.C. —
One person died after a tractor-trailer and a work truck collided in Union County Wednesday morning.The accident occurred at the intersection of Highways 200 and 218 around 8:40 a.m. Police said the driver of the work truck, Larry Mitchell Smith, 73, died at the hospital.The driver of the tractor-trailer, Albert Lee Grantham, was not injured in the accident.Police said Grantham ran a stop light at the intersection and hit Smith's truck. Grantham has been charged with misdemeanor death by a vehicle and failure to stop at red light.A passenger in the work truck, Paul Griffin, was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
