BOONE, N.C. —
Statement from Jane Nicholson, Appalachian State Director of University News:"The safety and health of our students has always been of paramount importance to the university. Educational programs about a range of safety issues, including sexual assault, prevention and awareness are presented throughout each academic year, including programs presented during summer orientation and in campus residence halls, and through activities such as the annual Walk for Awareness, Safety Festival, and other events.
In addition, the university’s “It’s Up to Me” and “See Something, Say Something” campaigns implemented in 2012 encourage all members of the university community to be aware of their surroundings and report incidents during which they observe behaviors that make them feel uncomfortable or unsafe or if they are concerned about the well being of others."
