Police: Accident caused by sleeping at the wheel, 1 airlifted

MINT HILL, N.C. —

One person had to be airlifted after a wreck in Mint Hill Saturday morning.

Highway Patrol officials told Eyewitness news the driver of a pickup truck fell asleep on the exit ramp from Interstate 485 to Blair Road around 1 a.m.

Troopers said the driver hit a guardrail, ran a stop sign and then hit another car.

The driver's son was thrown from the truck and has been in surgery Saturday morning.
